Case Study: Social Action Hub – Third Sector Community Impact Marketing Campaign

Marketing Support

Social Action Hub – Third Sector Community Impact Marketing Campaign

Strategic marketing campaign and brand development for Social Action Hub – A community-focused charity tackling food insecurity, supporting vulnerable families and building confidence in young people within Nottinghamshire.

About The Social Action Hub

Social Action Hub is a vital community organisation dedicated to empowering local communities and creating sustainable change. With an impressive track record of redistributing 135.3 tonnes of food in the last 12 months alone, they serve over 40% of vulnerable individuals in their community through their innovative Social Supermarket model and comprehensive support services.

The organisation goes beyond food redistribution, offering youth provision, education and skills development, health and wellbeing initiatives, and community events. Their work directly supports 1,060 beneficiaries, including 572 children, while preventing 67.65 tonnes of CO2 emissions – equivalent to the annual energy use of 25 UK homes.

The Challenge: Amplifying Community Impact

Social Action Hub approached Caroline Cox Marketing with a clear vision: they needed to raise awareness about their extraordinary community impact and attract the funding necessary to support their growth journey. Despite their remarkable achievements – including a 63% increase in food redistribution and capturing 27% of the food redistribution market share in Nottinghamshire – their story wasn’t reaching the stakeholders who could help amplify their impact.

The organisation needed branded assets, structured marketing strategies, and a comprehensive PR campaign to showcase their diverse services, from youth programmes to their innovative Social Supermarket model.

Our Strategic Approach

Understanding the Mission and Impact

Caroline Cox Marketing’s approach began with deeply understanding Social Action Hub’s multifaceted impact. We recognised that this wasn’t just about food redistribution – it was about dignity, choice, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. Our strategy needed to capture the full spectrum of their work while highlighting the impressive statistics that demonstrated their effectiveness.

Creating Compelling Brand Assets

We developed branded marketing materials that could serve as powerful tools for stakeholder engagement. These assets were designed to clearly communicate the organisation’s impact metrics, from the 135.3 tonnes of food saved to the 10,950-14,600 people supported annually through their Social Supermarket.

Structured Marketing Strategy and Website Development

A comprehensive marketing structure was created to support their growth objectives. This included:

  • Strategic messaging framework highlighting their unique community impact
  • Website content strategy and site mapping for developer execution
  • Clear positioning that emphasised both their social and environmental benefits
  • Stakeholder engagement tools designed to attract funding and support.

Comprehensive PR Campaign

The PR campaign was designed to showcase the breadth of Social Action Hub’s services – from youth provision to their Social Supermarket model. We focused on communicating how their work addresses root causes of vulnerability while providing immediate, practical support to families in need.

Outstanding Results

Media Coverage and Awareness

The campaign achieved significant media attention, with Social Action Hub being featured across East Midlands news channels. Media outlets were immediately engaged by the unique scale and impact of their community work, recognising the 63% year-on-year growth in food redistribution and their significant environmental contribution.

Increased Community Engagement

Following the campaign launch, Social Action Hub experienced increased usage of their services and greater community awareness of their comprehensive support offerings. The enhanced visibility helped more vulnerable individuals and families access the support they needed.

Stakeholder Engagement and Funding Opportunities

The structured marketing approach and compelling brand assets successfully attracted stakeholder attention, creating new opportunities for funding and partnership development. The campaign established a sustainable framework for ongoing marketing activities to support their self-sustainable business model.

Long-term Marketing Infrastructure

Beyond immediate results, the project created lasting marketing infrastructure that Social Action Hub can continue to leverage for ongoing stakeholder engagement and community outreach.

Are Business Awards Worth It?

Opinion Piece

Are Business Awards Worth It?

Recently, I had the privilege of entering the Small Business of the Year Mansfield and Ashfield Business Award, organised by the Mansfield and Ashfield Business Network (MABN). It was an incredible journey from the application process to the awards evening, and after completing the interview and presenting the growth and innovation our business has experienced over the last six years, I walked away feeling even more proud of what we’ve achieved.

Entering a business award forces you to reflect on your company’s journey.

And that’s one thing I hadn’t realised before – just how much we’ve accomplished. Running a business day-to-day, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle and forget to take a step back and celebrate your progress. But completing the application process and the interview made me realise just how far we’ve come.

Over the years, we’ve been committed to driving innovation, not just for our own business but also for the clients we support. Our marketing retainer service, website design, video content and marketing strategies have all played a part in our success. It’s not just about us, though – it’s about the way we help our clients achieve their goals and maintain their success year after year. Innovation has been key to that, and it’s what keeps our business thriving.

The Process of Applying For A Business Award

While we came second in the award process, the experience itself was incredibly rewarding. The process was seamless, and it gave us the opportunity to really reflect on our achievements. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day operations of running a business, but the application process for an award like this made us stop, take stock, and recognise all the progress we’ve made.

The awards evening itself was fabulous – the room was buzzing with energy, filled with inspirational businesses and local leaders. There were local mayors, directors from local councils, and entrepreneurs from all industries, all coming together to support each other. It was an evening of positivity, networking, and recognition, and it was so inspiring to be surrounded by so many incredible businesses all working towards the same goal – the betterment of our economy.

Find out more about us

So, are business awards worth the effort and expense?

The answer is a resounding yes. You can’t put a price on networking, showcasing your successes, and meeting new business leaders. In a world where businesses are facing increasing pressures, taking the time to be a part of an award process can be hugely valuable.

During the evening, we heard from the lifetime achievement winners, John and Carolyn Radford – owners of Mansfield Town Football Club. They spoke candidly about how hard business is at the moment. It was a reminder that even the most successful businesses face challenges, but it’s how you respond that counts. The key is staying positive, being innovative, and sticking to your marketing plans.

It’s easy to panic when you’re not seeing instant results from your marketing efforts, but as we’ve learned, consistency is key. Recessions and difficult times come and go, but the businesses that bounce back are the ones that stay committed to their target audience, remain present, and keep delivering value. So, don’t cancel your marketing plans. Stay the course, stay consistent, and, most importantly, stay positive.

In conclusion, business awards may come with a little bit of effort and expense, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. The connections you make, the reflection on your achievements, and the inspiration you gain are invaluable. Don’t hesitate to put yourself forward for that next award – you might just be surprised by how rewarding the process is!

What People Think About Your
Business That Doesn’t Show Up in the Data

I’ve been in marketing for over two decades now, and in that time, I’ve witnessed more change in the last five years than I could ever have imagined. But one thing that’s remained constant throughout? There’s no such thing as a quick win. While the latest trends might grab attention for a short while, it’s your long-term strategy that’s truly the key to transforming your business.

Why Quick Wins Aren’t Enough:
The Key to Sustainable Business Growth

. While the latest trends might grab attention for a short while, it’s your long-term strategy that’s truly the key to transforming your business. After 20 years in the marketing world, here’s what I’ve learned: Quick wins may give you a momentary lift, but they won’t help you build a brand that stands the test of time.

Key Strategies to Boost Brand Visibility in 2025

1. Content Marketing
Focus on creating high-quality, relevant content to build trust and establish authority. Whether it’s blog posts, videos, infographics, or webinars, this content educates your audience while positioning your brand as an industry leader.

2. Social Media Marketing
Don’t just post and ghost—engage actively with your audience across different platforms. Share content that adds value, and use social listening tools to understand the buzz around your brand. This helps you stay ahead of conversations and connect on a deeper level with your followers.

3. Influencer Marketing
Partnering with the right influencers can be a game-changer. By collaborating with influencers whose audiences align with your brand, you expand your reach and gain credibility. Their endorsement can make a world of difference in how your brand is perceived.

4. SEO Optimisation
No one wants to be buried on page 10 of Google. Optimising your website with the right keywords ensures you get found when people search for your offer. Keep content fresh and relevant to boost your rankings and improve visibility.

5. Paid Advertising
Platforms like Google Ads and social media ads aren’t just about spending money—they’re about targeting the right people at the right time. This is your chance to expand your reach beyond organic efforts and get in front of potential customers actively searching for what you provide.

6. Brand Colaborations
When you team up with complementary businesses, the possibilities are endless. Cross-promote each other’s brands to tap into new customer segments and networks you might not have had access to before. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

7. Community Engagement
Get involved! Whether it’s at industry events, online forums, or discussion panels, actively participating in your community positions your brand as a thought leader. By engaging with others, you build trust and credibility in your space.

8. Employee Advocacy
Your employees aren’t just the heart of your business—they’re also fantastic brand ambassadors. Encourage them to share company updates and news on their social media platforms. This organic form of marketing is powerful and helps amplify your brand’s reach.

9. Refferal Programs
Nothing beats a personal recommendation. By incentivising existing customers to refer friends or colleagues, you’re tapping into the power of word-of-mouth marketing, which can help grow your customer base in a natural, authentic way.

10. Public Relations (PR)
PR is a fantastic way to get your brand in front of a larger audience. Whether you’re issuing press releases or pitching stories to journalists, positive media exposure helps build brand awareness and can create lasting credibility.

Important Considerations

Understand Your Target Audience: Take the time to define your ideal customers clearly. This allows you to tailor your marketing efforts to speak directly to their needs and preferences.

Consistency Is Essential: Make sure your brand identity remains uniform across all communication channels. This strengthens your message and ensures your business stays at the forefront of your industry.

Measure And Refine: Regularly track key metrics such as website traffic, social media engagement, and brand mentions. This will help you assess the effectiveness of your strategies and make informed adjustments where needed.

What if your data metrics show some of your
marketing strategies underperforming? Should you stop doing it?

The answer is no

You never know who’s paying attention, who’s talking, or who’s quietly being reminded of your business, waiting for the right moment to make a purchase. I recently attended a networking event where I was asked to share examples of my clients to help others understand my work. I mentioned a local business, and immediately, someone responded, “I love their branding and the personal touches they add to their service – it really sets them apart.” The person sitting next to them wholeheartedly agreed. That’s the kind of feedback you can’t measure.

It’s these moments – when people are speaking positively about your business in informal settings – that don’t show up in your data. Does this kind of positivity translate into a concrete metric? Not always. But if you aren’t visible and aren’t actively listening to what your target audience is saying, how can you truly know what’s working?

Save Time, Save Money, Scale Up

Imagine if you could wake up to an inbox full of fresh leads, knowing all your marketing needs were already handled. Sounds great, right?

That’s exactly what a marketing retainer can do for you.

First Things First…What Exactly is a Marketing Retainer?

A marketing retainer is like having your own dedicated team of marketing experts—without the expense of employing full-time staff. Instead of managing multiple suppliers or dealing with project-by-project quotes, a retainer gives you ongoing access to creative and strategic marketing services that keep your brand thriving all year round.

Budget-friendly marketing retainer

Think of it as a way to keep the wheels turning on your marketing while you focus on what you do best: running your business.
Not only is it more efficient, but it’s also a budget-friendly solution for businesses of all sizes, from ambitious startups to established enterprises. Plus, with our tailored packages, you can pick a retainer level that suits your budget and goals.

How Does a Marketing Retainer Work?

It’s simpler than you might think:

  1. Choose Your Package: We offer a range of retainer options based on your needs and budget. Want a few hours of social media magic every month, or perhaps a full-scale digital overhaul? We’ve got you covered.

What’s Included? The Breakdown of Retainer Services

Our retainer packages provide access to a complete marketing team that works as an extension of your business. Here’s a snapshot of what you can expect:

  • Email Campaigns & Automation: Drive sales with automated email flows and targeted campaigns.
  • Graphic Design: Need new branding or creative assets? We’ve got designers on hand to make your vision a reality.
  • Website Design & Maintenance: From a brand-new site to quick updates, our developers can make it happen.

With each package, you get guaranteed hours at a fixed rate, priority service, and refreshed creative every month. No need for quotes, no surprise fees, just reliable support month after month.

The Small Print: Minimum three-month commitment, 50% of the cost upfront, with monthly payments following. A little planning upfront, and you’re all set. 2-month cancellation notice.

Fineline Research Marketing Case Study

Social Media & PR for Fineline Market Research

Fineline Market Research – Organic Business Growth

Social media content and design for Fineline Market Research – A business providing full service market research to SME’s and large companies.

About Fineline Market Research – Fineline is a well-established market research agency established for 10 years, and throughout that time, they have enjoyed organic growth captured from their excellent reputation within the industry. Their proven track record has provided consistency with clients and staff members. They offer their clients expertise across a wide range of research methods, including customer experience, brand tracking, and consumer duty.

They pride themselves on being the market research agency that really cares and listens to your business problems and has a portfolio of clients who remain a constant within the business.

Raising the profile of an already successful business

Social Media Marketing & PR

Fineline Market Research founder Scott Hinton was looking to onboard a marketing agency to support the organic growth of the business. He was happy with the level of business and consistency they achieved year on year but recognised the need for the company to have an online presence and platform to share their wins and successes and raise the profile of the brand. Scott had the business in a healthy position that didn’t need a marketing plan to drive business it needed a marketing plan to support the business and showcase the value it brings to its customers.

Find Out More About Our Social Media Marketing

What does the onboarding process involve?

Understanding the industry and the business

Similar to Fineline’s business values, we pride ourselves on caring and listening to each business we work alongside and getting to understand the pain points (if any) and the desired outcome. The first couple of months of working with a new client takes time to research competitors, talk to our client, and truly capture their tone of voice and offer a holistic approach to our outputs that reflects the business and puts them on a journey to raising their profile and achieving their business goals.

Creating the right content consistency

Consistency will always be the key to success in social media and many other marketing activities. We created a batch of content to reflect key elements of the business, the range of services and credibility. The content drives the graphic design to support the messages and reflects the branding.

We’ve combined social media activity with longer forms of content to support the activities of the business and create thought leadership articles to share on various platforms.

Social media scheduling and analytics

To onboard a client is to understand their audience and what resonates with their target audience to capture the most engagement. Each month, we will analyse the engagement and impact on website visitors. Content that creates the most attention is then captured again to produce a variation and continue to speak to its target audience.

Testimonial

We have definitely had enquires and picked up three new clients as a result of the PR stuff you are doing, one of them has resulted in a really large contract. I know it’s the PR stuff that has created this as all 3 contacted us having seen us on LinkedIn.

I am extremely pleased with the way this is going Caroline, its working by far more than I expected it to. From my perspective, I was hoping for it to raise awareness of Fineline, which would help me when contacting people, but it’s actually driving business to us.

Thanks so much for all of your work to date, its been superb!

Why use empathy in your marketing?

Imagine Not Being In A Digital World Right Now…?

There is no denying that these unprecedented times are hard. But can you imagine how much harder it would be without our world being digital? With everyone spending hours on their phones per day, how do you capture their interest to convert them into customers? During this pandemic and particularly lockdown 3; the answer lies in the use of empathy in your marketing messages.

As humans, we all laugh, cry and love. These feelings create an experience, and as marketers, it’s our job to recreate these feelings through effective marketing campaigns that connect with and motivate our target audience.

It’s important to note that empathy in marketing campaigns isn’t just a “feel-good” technique. It allows marketers and business owners to step into the shoes of their target audience to better understand and respond to their wants and needs, which in turn produces loyal customers and greater business success.

Do you want to boost sales and grow your business? Here is why empathy in marketing matters and how you can incorporate it into your current marketing strategy.

Create communication pieces that speak to the needs of your target audience.

Why use empathy in your marketing?

Long gone are the days of the outbound sales process, where people were directed and heavily pushed into the sales funeral. Nowadays, consumers don’t want to be “sold” to; they want to develop trust with a brand. Consumers will even go so far as to ignore or become upset with any communication piece that doesn’t feel authentic or genuine.

The main focus of marketing is sales! And while that should be the case, sometimes our communication can become bogged down by that driving force. Taking a step back to think about how and why a product or service will provide a solution to your customers will help to lead them to your brand, rather than directing them to it.

Practical Marketing Tip:

Create communication pieces that speak to the needs of your target audience. Putting yourself in their shoes will allow you (and your brand) to provide help and guidance. This can even lead to better customer satisfaction and engagement.

How to Use Empathy In Marketing

  • Humanise yourself and your brand. Your target audience isn’t some intangible, fictitious persona. They are real people, just like you and I. While it’s important to know what stage of the buyer’s journey they are in, just remember that you’re creating communications for a human at the end of the day.
  • Remember that no one person is alike. Your customers, even if they fall into the same generation or age bracket, are all different. They won’t all have the same problems or desires.
  • Always perform research. Since empathy is defined as putting yourself in another person’s shoes, it’s important not just to make educated guesses. Performing in-depth buyer persona research will allow for empathetic insight.
  • Pay attention, listen, and be proactive. Whether it’s through social media, online forums, or feedback from the sales team, what are your customers saying? What do they like about your marketing and brand? What do they want you to change? Learn about your audience from past and current buyers – this will help further define your marketing strategy for the future.

The Secret To Empathy

Understanding a consumer’s wants, needs, annoyances, and grievances, will truly help to set your marketing campaigns apart from other companies. Creating a connection from brand to the consumer through empathy – especially during this COVID 19 pandemic is the authentic recipe for marketing success.
